Job Details: Lab Pack Chemist - Turn complex chemical waste into safe, compliant solutions
You know your chemistry. Here, you’ll put it to work in the field—at customer sites—where decisions matter and your expertise keeps people and the environment safe.
You’ll be the one identifying unknowns, segregating chemicals, and packaging hazardous and non-hazardous waste so it moves safely and legally through the world.
This is hands-on, boots-on-the-ground chemistry work. Not lab theory.
You’ll also lead tech/chemist teams as needed, interface directly with customers, and become the trusted expert they call when they need waste handled right the first time.
If you’ve packed drums, done waste characterization, or worked in environmental services, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Work On
You’ll work at various customer locations, handling real-world chemical waste streams and all the documentation that goes with them:
• Hazardous and non-hazardous waste at customer facilities
• Chemical segregations and lab packs
• Unknown waste characterization
• Consolidation and chemical relocations
• Decontamination and related projects
• Drum preparation, inspection, and shipment readiness
• Customer-specific disposal and packaging requirements
• Regulatory-driven documentation and shipping records
You’ll be working within EPA, DOT, TSDF restrictions and company policies to make sure every container is safe, compliant, and ready to move.
Your core challenge: turn messy, complex waste situations into clean, compliant shipping units—every single time.
What You'll Be Doing
• Complying with all health and safety practices and acting safely at all times
• Performing field work including consolidation, lab packs, and chemical relocations
• Executing decontamination and other industry-related field projects
• Characterizing, segregating, packing, and labeling waste drums at customer locations
• Preparing waste drums for pickup and transportation
• Obtaining and recording accurate billing information for proper customer billing
• Interfacing directly with clients to understand disposal and packaging requirements
• Providing lab pack services and best management practice suggestions to customers
• Ensuring overall quality control of materials to be shipped
• Verifying drum counts and ensuring drum condition meets US DOT and company requirements
• Completing administrative and transportation paperwork (packing lists, waste characterization forms, LDR forms, manifests, etc.)
• Working at one or more customer locations up to 40 hours per week
What We're Looking For
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field, or a minimum of two years of waste disposal experience
• Prior waste characterization experience preferred
• Current OSHA 40-hour and DOT Hazardous Materials certifications preferred
• Ability to pass a respirator qualification test
• Ability to lift 40 pounds and move 300-pound drums with a drum cart
• Professional attitude with effective communication skills
• Basic computer knowledge and skills
• Ability to multi-task with good organizational skills
• Ability to travel for one to two weeks once a quarter
• Able to drive/operate a small box truck with medical card
The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention
You’ve been out in the field—at plants, labs, or industrial sites—handling real waste streams, not just reading about them. You’re comfortable around drums and manifests, and you know how to keep projects moving while staying firmly inside EPA and DOT rules.
You can walk into a storage room full of containers, quickly make sense of what you’re seeing, and drive a safe, compliant plan for segregation, packing, and shipment while keeping the customer informed and confident.
Chemistry degree or waste industry background • Lab packing and segregation experience • Waste characterization • Hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling • OSHA 40-hour • DOT HazMat • Drum handling • Small box truck operation
Why This Opportunity?
This is where you take your chemistry knowledge and turn it into visible, tangible impact—every job you complete reduces risk for your customers and their people.
You won’t be stuck behind a bench or in a cubicle. You’ll own your projects on site, work directly with customers, and see the immediate results of your decisions.
As you grow, you’ll become the go-to person for complex lab pack and waste issues, and you’ll build a highly marketable mix of chemistry, regulatory, and field experience.
Important Requirements
Must be able to travel for one (1) to two (2) weeks once a quarter.
Must be able to pass a respirator qualification test.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds and move 300-pound drums using a drum cart.
Must be able to drive/operate a small box truck and hold a medical card.
Interested?
If you’re ready to get out on site, own your projects, and put your chemistry to work where it really counts, let’s talk.
