Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Engineer specializing in Water and Wastewater systems to join our innovative engineering team. In this role, you will lead and support the design, planning, and execution of water treatment, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and related environmental projects. Your expertise will drive successful project delivery from conception through permitting and construction, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and client specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to sustainable water resources management while advancing your career in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. Responsibilities Lead the design and engineering of water treatment plants, wastewater systems, stormwater infrastructure, and related civil and environmental projects using tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and GIS software like ArcGIS. Develop hydrological models using SWMM (Storm Water Management Model), HEC (Hydrologic Engineering Center) tools, and other modeling software to analyze water flow, stormwater runoff, and flood risks. Prepare detailed engineering drawings, technical reports, and specifications for project components including piping systems, treatment units, and geotechnical considerations. Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources effectively while coordinating with clients, regulatory agencies (EPA compliance), contractors, and internal teams to ensure timely project completion. Participate actively in the permitting phase by preparing documentation for environmental permits, liaising with regulatory bodies, and ensuring all projects meet environmental law standards. Conduct site visits for data collection, inspections during construction phases, and quality assurance to uphold safety standards and environmental compliance. Provide technical guidance on wastewater treatment processes, water resource management strategies, mechanical systems integration, and environmental remediation efforts. Lead project teams by assigning tasks, reviewing work outputs, fostering collaboration across disciplines such as civil engineering, environmental consulting, geotechnical engineering, and mechanical knowledge. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering; advanced degrees or certifications in water resources or environmental engineering are a plus. Proven experience managing water/wastewater projects from design through permitting phases with a strong understanding of environmental regulatory compliance standards. Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation for drafting; ArcGIS for spatial analysis; SWMM and HEC models for hydrological analysis; Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting. Hands-on experience with wastewater treatment plant design or operation is highly desirable. Knowledge of environmental law applicable to water resources management including EPA regulations; familiarity with environmental permitting processes is essential. Strong project management skills including scheduling (MS Project or similar), budgeting, team leadership, and client communication abilities. Familiarity with stormwater systems design, geotechnical considerations in civil projects, mechanical system integration in water treatment facilities. Ability to interpret technical data accurately while maintaining attention to detail; excellent problem-solving skills combined with proactive communication style. Join us if you’re passionate about shaping sustainable water infrastructure solutions! This role offers the chance to work on impactful projects that improve community resilience while developing your expertise within a vibrant team committed to excellence in environmental engineering.
