Job Title: Field Operations Instructor III Location: Reading, PA / Erie, PA / Warren, OH / Williamsport, MD Duration: 12 Months to begin with possible extension and possible conversion to a Full-Time Employee (FTE). Industry: Energy / Renewable Energy Pay Range: $29/hr to $31/Hr. Job Overview: The Distribution Instructor (DX Lines) will provide classroom and hands-on training to apprentice and journey-level lineworkers and utility personnel, developing technical skills, safety awareness, and professional standards required for electric utility field operations. Key Responsibilities: Deliver training on distribution construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, work methods, and safety procedures. Provide classroom and field instruction covering electrical theory, system operations, equipment, hazard recognition, and safe work practices. Demonstrate and supervise pole climbing, rigging, tool/equipment use, bucket truck operation, and distribution construction activities. Train personnel on OSHA, NESC, company policies, and utility safety practices. Evaluate trainees through written tests, practical demonstrations, and field observations; provide coaching and feedback. Develop lesson plans, maintain training records, and update curriculum based on evolving standards, technologies, tools, and work methods. Mentor and coach employees while promoting professionalism, teamwork, continuous improvement, and a safety-first culture. Coordinate training schedules with management and other instructors. Participate in safety initiatives, field observations, workforce development projects, and storm restoration efforts as needed. Collaborate with instructors and operational leaders to maintain consistency and quality across training programs. Basic/Required Qualifications: Distribution Instructor III: 4–7 years of journey-level technical/field experience as a distribution line worker. High school diploma or equivalent. Comprehensive knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems, construction standards, distribution system design, work methods, equipment, and safe work practices. Thorough knowledge of OSHA requirements, NESC standards, and utility safety practices. Ability to climb poles, operate bucket trucks, work at heights, and demonstrate climbing, rigging, and equipment operation. Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, mentoring, and adult-learning skills. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and PowerPoint. Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically perform field demonstrations. Experience Levels: Distribution Instructor III: 4–7 years; general supervision. Distribution Instructor IV: 8–12 years; occasional general supervision. Distribution Instructor V: 12+ years; limited general supervision. Preferred / Desired Skills: Valid Class A CDL. Additional technical training or certifications. Instructional training or adult-education certification. Experience training, coaching, mentoring, or leading field crews. Working Conditions: Classroom, training yard, and field environments. Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and outdoor exposure. Occasional travel to remote sites/company locations; up to 25% travel.
