Job Title: Superintendent of Construction Job Description This short-term contract role (approximately 12–14 weeks) is for a Superintendent overseeing the ground-up construction of a convenience store and fuel station. The position focuses on managing site civil operations, including utilities, grading, paving, earthwork, and stormwater systems, while ensuring the project stays on schedule, within budget, and compliant with all safety and quality standards. You will coordinate multiple subcontractors on a commercial construction project and leverage construction management software to drive effective planning, documentation, and communication.
Responsibilities • Oversee day-to-day site civil construction activities for a ground-up convenience store and fuel station project, including utilities, earthwork, grading, paving, concrete work, and stormwater systems.
• Manage and coordinate multiple subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
• Maintain and monitor project schedules, adjusting activities and resources as needed to keep the project on track and meet key milestones.
• Support project budgeting efforts by monitoring labor, materials, and equipment usage and identifying potential cost impacts or efficiencies.
• Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures on site, ensuring full compliance with OSHA standards and promoting a safe working environment for all personnel.
• Conduct regular quality control inspections to verify that work meets required standards, codes, and specifications, and promptly address any deficiencies.
• Use construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools to manage documentation, RFIs, daily reports, and project communication.
• Coordinate with the general contractor team and other stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain clear, timely communication regarding project progress.
• Plan, sequence, and schedule site construction activities to optimize workflow and minimize conflicts between trades.
• Maintain accurate project records, including daily logs, site reports, safety documentation, and quality control records.
Essential Skills • Approximately 5+ years of construction experience, preferably in commercial construction with a focus on site development and ground-up projects.
• Proven experience working as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or in a similar supervisory role on commercial site development projects.
• Strong background in site civil construction, including utilities, earthwork, grading, paving, concrete activities, and stormwater systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors effectively and maintain detailed project schedules.
• Hands-on experience with commercial construction practices and working with a general contractor on ground-up projects.
• Solid understanding of quality control processes and the ability to enforce construction standards and specifications.
• OSHA 30 Certification and strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices on construction sites.
• Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools for project documentation and coordination.
• Experience in project management and project scheduling within a commercial construction environment.
• Ability to oversee site construction operations and make informed decisions to keep the project on budget and on schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working for or with a general contractor in a superintendent capacity on ground-up commercial projects.
• background in commercial construction, including fuel station or convenience store projects, is advantageous.
• Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate multiple trades and stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and civil plans.
• Comfort with using digital tools and software to track progress, manage documentation, and support field operations.
• Interest in gaining further experience and exposure as a Superintendent on high-visibility commercial projects.
Work Environment This role is fully onsite at an active commercial construction site for a ground-up convenience store and fuel station. You will work in a field environment that includes outdoor exposure, varying weather conditions, and typical construction site hazards. The position requires regular presence on the job site to supervise activities, interact with subcontractors, and monitor progress. You will use technologies such as Procore, Bluebeam, and other construction management tools to support your work. Work hours typically follow standard construction schedules and may require flexibility to address project needs and milestones. Appropriate construction site attire, including safety gear such as hard hats, high-visibility vests, and protective footwear, is required.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Vinton, VA.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
