NDE Automated UT Level III

Role Description The NDE Automated UT Level III role is a full-time, on-site position based in Lynchburg, VA. This role is responsible for developing, qualifying, and maintaining automated ultrasonic testing (UT) procedures and techniques in accordance with industry codes, standards, and customer requirements. Daily activities include overseeing UT system setups, reviewing and interpreting test results, approving calibration and validation records, and providing technical guidance to Level I and Level II personnel. The person in this role will lead investigations into indications and system performance issues, support root-cause analyses, and recommend corrective actions. Additional responsibilities include training and mentoring staff, supporting audits and regulatory reviews, preparing technical documentation and reports, and collaborating with engineering, quality, and operations teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient inspection processes.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated expertise as an NDE Level III in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), preferably with automated UT systems in a nuclear or similarly regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, ASTM, nuclear regulatory requirements) and experience developing and approving NDE procedures.
• Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation of UT signals, including use of specialized UT software and tools for calibration, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Experience training, mentoring, and providing technical oversight to Level I and Level II NDE personnel.
• Excellent documentation and reporting skills, with the ability to prepare clear procedures, inspection records, and technical justifications.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with engineering, quality, and operations teams in an on-site environment.
• Relevant certifications as an NDE Level III in UT (e.g., ASNT, employer-based certification) and familiarity with other methods (e.g., PT, MT, RT) is beneficial.
