Production Supervisor – Wharf Job Summary: The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing production processes and the daily delivery of high-quality compost materials for mushroom farm operations. This role involves managing Wharf operations, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, maintaining efficient production, and promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability. This position requires a hands-on leader who is comfortable working directly with the team and actively participating in daily Wharf operations. The successful candidate must be able to lead by example, support employees in the field, and balance supervisory responsibilities with performing operational tasks when needed. The Production Supervisor will work in an outdoor agricultural production environment and must be comfortable working in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other changing environmental conditions. This role requires an early morning schedule, with a typical start time of 5:00 a.m., and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment involving heavy equipment, machinery, and hands-on operational activities. Key Responsibilities: Oversee daily Wharf operations to ensure efficient compost production and timely delivery of materials to mushroom farms. Supervise compost formulation according to production requirements to ensure consistent and homogeneous production. Manage raw material receipt, inventory, and proper handling procedures. Track production forecasts and manage resources to meet operational and delivery targets. Assign performance expectations and ensure compliance with company policies, operational standards, and production goals. Supervise, coach, and motivate employees to create a productive, safe, and accountable work environment. Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to team members while maintaining clear expectations for performance and safety. Maintain a hands-on leadership approach by working alongside employees, assisting with operational tasks when needed, and providing real-time guidance and support in the field. Monitor and adjust the composting biological process by taking temperature readings, analyzing results, and making necessary adjustments. Ensure all safety protocols are followed and actively promote a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, correcting unsafe behaviors, and reinforcing safe work practices. Ensure employees properly operate and work safely around heavy machinery and equipment. Coordinate with Maintenance for preventive and corrective maintenance of machinery and equipment. Collect compost samples for quality control and monitor production standards. Collaborate with other departments to resolve operational issues affecting production efficiency. Maintain accountability within the team by addressing performance concerns, recognizing achievements, and promoting continuous improvement. Qualifications and Requirements: Valid Pennsylvania driver's license. Previous supervisory or leadership experience managing teams in agriculture, manufacturing, production, warehouse, or other industrial environments. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, train, and hold employees accountable. Previous experience in a hands-on operational leadership role preferred. Experience working around heavy machinery, equipment, loaders, forklifts, tractors, or similar industrial equipment preferred. Agricultural experience preferred; however, candidates with strong industrial experience and demonstrated comfort working around heavy equipment may be considered. Strong commitment to safety and ability to enforce safe work practices. Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions in a fast-paced production environment. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions. Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear instructions and expectations to employees. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with team members and other departments. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Flexibility to adjust work hours based on operational needs. Ability to work 5 days per week, including 1 weekend day. Must be available to start early morning shifts, typically at 5:00 a.m. Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting with operational activities. Bilingual: English-Spanish is a plus.
