SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Vice President, Daycare assists in the implementation of daily activities of the Center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : As the Head Teacher you will supervise Teachers, Shift Supervisors, Head Assistant Teachers, Assistants, and support staff in all rooms, excluding administrative clerical personnel. You will assure that all aspects of day-to-day operations for the daycare are running smoothly, and that staff are completing assigned duties. This will be accomplished by working with the proper supervisory personnel and holding them accountable for their individual areas of the daycare. Your duties and responsibilities will include the following. Other duties may be assigned: On call when not at Center on weekends Greets children, parents, and visitors Monitors activities for safety and well being of children Encourages language development Attends in-service programs Assures all relevant progress notes and incidents on all children are properly documented and filed Adheres to policies and procedures of the program Shows an attitude of cooperation and support as a member of the team Respects the confidentiality of records pertaining to the center Assists in providing an environment free from safety hazards Assures completion and accuracy of meal counts, attendance reports, outcome measures, curriculum, and lesson plans Explains the program and center policies to parents and staff Organizes the classroom into functional areas recognizable by children, e.g. library area, kitchen area, science area Provides an environment for children that promotes a sense of positive identity as an individual, as a member of family and ethnic group and as a competent individual with a place in his/her community Creates an atmosphere for children where it is natural and acceptable to express feelings, both positive and negative Creates an atmosphere which encourages initiative, responsibility, adaptability and which fosters feelings of mastery and success Communicates and interacts with parents toward the goal of understanding and considering the priorities of their children Recognizes and utilizes the strength and talents of parents as they may contribute to the development of their own children, providing parents with opportunities to participate and enrich the group program Shows an attitude of cooperation and support as a member of the team Identifies training needs and fulfills Department of Public Welfare annual training requirements Attends & conducts meetings as needed Adheres to and implements policies of the program Performs other job-related duties as required CACFP ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Prepare meals/snacks for children Serve meals to children Complete Point of Service documentation for CACFP meals Clean kitchen and dining areas after meals/snacks Date and store leftover food QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or Human Services A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Child Care and/or education fields Valid Pa Drivers License and good driving history Good interpersonal skills Planning and organizational skills Listening and communications skills Ability to respond to situations as they occur Ability to problem solve, exercise sound judgment and work under pressure Ability to work within and maintain a budget Able to work independently and have good time management skills. Must provide Child Abuse and Criminal History Clearance upon hiring Physical Requirements and Work Environment Be able to lift children up to 50 pounds. Be able to walk, bend, stand, squat or sit on the floor (with children) throughout an 8-hour day. Be able to walk up and down steps several times each day. Be able to physically respond quickly in an emergency. Be actively engaged and involved with children each day; including planning daily outdoor time in all ranges of temperatures or humidity levels, subject to safety guidelines. Understand the risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids and use universal precautions in such instances. Be able to travel to various locations for field trips or outings. On these occasions, public transportation or other acceptable modes of transportation may be employed.
