Job Code: Job Title: Pharmacy Technician – Prescription Services & Patient Support Reports To: Pharmacist FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Status: Full-time Pay Range: $18-$20 per hour PURPOSE: The Pharmacy Technician – Medication Distribution & Patient Services serves as a liaison between the health center and its contracted pharmacy services. The primary responsibility of this position is to retrieve prescription medications from an off-site pharmacy location, transport medications securely to the health center, and facilitate prescription pickup and payment collection for patients. This position ensures medication inventory is accurately received, stored, documented, and distributed while providing excellent customer service to patients at the front desk. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Medication Retrieval and Transport o Pick up prescription medications from designated off-site pharmacy locations according to established schedules. o Maintain the security and confidentiality of all medications during transport. o Verify medication deliveries against manifests and supporting documentation. o Ensure proper chain-of-custody procedures are followed at all times. o Report discrepancies, damaged medications, or delivery issues promptly. · Medication Inventory Management o Receive and organize prescriptions upon arrival at the health center. o Maintain accurate patient and transaction records within the electronic health record (EHR) and/or pharmacy management system. o Maintain accurate records of medications received and dispensed. o Store medications in accordance with applicable regulatory and manufacturer requirements. o Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to appropriate personnel. o Assist with medication reconciliation and documentation as directed. · Patient Services o Serve as the primary point of contact for patients picking up prescriptions. o Coordinate with pharmacy staff regarding prescription availability, refill requests, and patient communication. o Assist with patient outreach regarding prescription pickup and refill reminders. o Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable policies and procedures. · Prescription Pickup & Cashiering o Verify patient identity prior to medication release. o Collect prescription copayments and other applicable patient charges. o Process cash, credit card, and other payment transactions accurately. o Provide receipts and maintain appropriate financial records. o Direct patient questions regarding medication counseling to the pharmacist or appropriate clinical staff. o Reconcile daily cash receipts and payment transactions in accordance with organizational policies. o Balance cash drawer and report discrepancies immediately. · Off-site Pharmacy Technician Assistance (As Needed) o Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, may assist with basic pharmacy operations, including prescription preparation, labeling, packaging, inventory maintenance, and other duties permitted by law and assigned by the supervising pharmacist at the remote pharmacy in Buckingham, Virginia. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: REQUIRED · High school diploma or equivalent. · Current Pharmacy Technician registration/certification as required by state law. · Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to travel between designated pharmacy and clinic locations. · Ability to pass a background check and drug screening, if required. · Basic computer proficiency and experience handling financial transactions. · Strong customer service and communication skills. · Knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication handling procedures. · Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements. · Ability to accurately maintain records and handle cash transactions. · Strong organizational and time-management skills. · Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, providers, pharmacists, and staff. PREFERRED · Previous pharmacy technician experience. · Experience working in a healthcare or community health center setting. · Experience with electronic health records and pharmacy software. · Bilingual abilities preferred.
