Business Unit Controller
MLC Recruitment is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Business Unit Controller for their client in the Lynchburg area. The Business Unit Controller will support financial operations, reporting, and performance management for a rapidly growing business unit. This role partners closely with operational leaders to drive financial accuracy, budgeting discipline, forecasting, and business insights that support decision-making and profitability.
The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience with financial reporting and controls, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the business unit
• Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and provide actionable recommendations
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
• Develop financial models and ad hoc analyses to support business initiatives
Budgeting & Forecasting
• Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
• Partner with department leaders to develop operating plans and expense forecasts
• Provide insights on revenue trends, cost management, and profitability improvement opportunities
Internal Controls & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls
• Support internal and external audit activities
• Maintain accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting systems
• Assist with process improvements and automation initiatives
Business Partnership
• Collaborate with operations, sales, and senior leadership teams to support strategic decision-making
• Translate financial data into clear business insights for non-financial stakeholders
• Participate in cross-functional projects and operational reviews
• Support pricing analysis, capital expenditures, and investment evaluations
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 4+ years of experience in accounting, finance, FP&A, or controllership roles
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Proficiency with ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics)
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

• Experience supporting a manufacturing, engineering, or multi-entity business environment
