The pool features two three-meter and two one-meter diving boards, ranges in depth from 3’6” to 13’2” and holds more than 740,000 gallons of water. Activities include general recreation, aqua fitness classes, Bobcat Swim Club, swim meets, learn to swim lessons, private rentals, birthday parties and home to the athletic women’s swimming and diving team. The facility is open to university students, faculty/staff, alumni, and community members. Our student staff members are certified through American Red Cross and National Recreation and Parks Association. They are trained to operate the facility, programs and events housed within the Aquatic Center as well as support those that choose to use the Aquatic Center to host their event. In support of our mission, our student staff design and offer a variety of programs and events for the communities we serve. Student Member Service Assistants (MSA) are responsible for, first and foremost, positive patron and customer service. Included in the responsibility is the care for customers from entry to exit of the Aquatic Center and monetary transactions for the facility. Working under the direction of the Aqua Shop and Front Desk Operations Manager and the Recreation Assistant Supervisor, MSAs have an important role within the operation. They are also responsible for maintaining a clean and presentable environment at the Front Desk, including the retail and concessions area within the front desk. (Approximately 8 to 12 hours per week) Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1. Patron and customer care with an emphasis on positive customer service 2. Risk Management of the facility with the goal of safety for patrons, staff and the facility 3. Initiate and conduct Emergency Action Plan as necessary for emergency situations as they arise 4. Address and complete tasks in a timely manner as directed by the Student Operations Supervisor on duty 5. Conduct proper sales and monetary transactions for programs, retail and concession sales for the Aquatic Center 6. Become knowledgeable of all resale and concession products being sold within the Aqua Shop 7. Responsible for assessing situations and responding appropriately during an emergency situation 8. Assist the Student Operations Supervisor on Duty with maintaining a clean and organized environment within the Aquatic Center 9. Report to the Student Operations Supervisor on duty upon arrival for shift and before leaving the facility at the end of scheduled shift 10. Maintain current information within the staff scheduling system 11. Submit accurate hours on university timecard system, Workforce, by midnight the Sunday at the end of the two week pay period 12. Required attendance to Pre-Semester In-Service trainings and biweekly skill training times 13. Maintain effective communication with Student Operations Supervisor and Student Managers 14. Assist with maintenance and facility readiness for events and programming as assigned Job Profile Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Performs a variety of tasks in support of Campus Recreation sports and facilities. May be responsible for operational support, member services, event management, social media management, equipment management, and/or ensuring a safe experience for patrons. Certification may be required for certain positions. Level Summary Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments. Supervisory Responsibilities: Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers. Fiscal Responsibilities: No budgetary responsibility. Problem Solving: Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision. Independence of Action: Works under close supervision. Communication and Collaboration: Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks. Minimum Qualifications Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements. Preferred Qualifications Current American Red Cross certifications in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Previous experience in retail and concession sales preferred Positive organizational and team working skills Good judgment, Leadership and Team Motivational Skills are required Proficient computer skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills Working Condition/Physical Demands: This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
