Position Summary
This role is essential for supporting food service operations at assigned locations. The main responsibilities include coordinating food preparation activities, leading and assisting cafeteria staff in preparing and serving food, ensuring the availability and quality of food items, preparing written reports, and adhering to health and food safety regulations. The School Nutrition Assistant Manager performs as the acting manager in the absence of the School Nutrition Manager.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Additional annual manager training including but not limited to quarterly manager meetings and assigned classes to provide at least 10 hours of professional learning annually.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
• Valid Driver’s License
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint
• Background Clearance
• ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification through National Restaurant Association
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Food service experience, preferably in a school setting.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and receive information both in person, in writing and on the phone.

Required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment and equipment found in a commercial kitchen; and using pertinent software applications.

Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Essential Duties
• Demonstrates consistent punctuality and regular attendance.
• Communicates effectively and professionally with customers, staff, and administrators, maintaining a cooperative and considerate working environment.
• Follows both verbal and written instructions meticulously.
• Promotes the school nutrition program and fosters positive public relations to enhance program visibility and support.
• Manages daily food service operations to comply with district menus and USDA regulations, overseeing food safety, quality control, and sanitation.
• Monitors food quality and temperature from preparation to meal service to ensure compliance with health standards and customer satisfaction.
• Handles inventory management, including placing orders and receiving goods to maintain necessary levels for daily operations and menu requirements.
• Oversees site operations including staff supervision, monitoring meal participation and expenditures, and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal mandates.
• Orients new employees, participates in professional development, and provides coverage for various food service positions as needed.
• Prepares and processes documentation such as temperature logs, meal records, financial reconciliations, and bank deposits.
• Responds to inquiries, schedules staff assignments, and secures food and supplies to ensure operational efficiency and security.
• Maintains all kitchen equipment and food service storage areas to comply with food safety and sanitation standards.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
