Position Goal
Members of the Owen J. Roberts School District Security Department may be deployed on any school campus for the purposes of providing daytime patrols, evening patrols, or special event security. Powers while on duty shall be in accordance with School Board Policy No. 709A.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provides traffic and parking control for the purpose of maintaining efficient traffic flow and use of parking lots. Traffic control points will be on school district property, adjacent roadways as authorized by PennDOT codes and at other locations associated with official District functions.
• Conducts patrols of all District facilities and buildings as assigned. These patrols may be conducted via foot patrol or motor vehicle and include building interiors, exteriors, adjacent grounds and roadways.
• Monitors and assists with emergency procedure drills including fire drills, weather drills, lockdown / active threat drills and other emergency drills.
• Author reports and other correspondence related to assigned duties, including incident reports, daily logs and related forms. Reports must be thorough, accurate and complete.
• Participate in unit meetings, in-service training, out-service training and other workshops and informational sessions.
• Respond to and assist at a variety of situations including disturbances, alarms, emergency situations and suspicious activity. Take appropriate action at these incidents to protect life, conserve property and stabilize the situation until additional emergency services arrive.
• Issue District Violation Notices for violations of policy related to parking and other campus traffic rules.
• Provide transportation to District employees or students using District vehicles when authorized by School Administration or the Chief of Security.
• Testify in court when necessary.
• Use reasonable force to quell a disturbance on school property; or for the purpose of self-defense; or for the protection of persons or property.
• Assist Owen J. Roberts School District School Police, local and/or State law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students.
• Perform other related duties as determined by the Chief of Safety and Security or the District Superintendent to ensure a safe and secure learning and working environment for students and staff.
Qualifications
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Police or similar experience preferred.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and safe driving record.
• Ability to read and carry out job responsibilities with minimal instruction.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
• Reliable personal vehicle.
• Submission of PA School Personnel Health form.
• Current Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances.
• Employees performing these duties will be subjected to outside environmental conditions with severe temperature changes and moderate to loud noise levels.
• The person, while performing in this position, will be required to:
• Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear;
• Stand, walk and sit, and occasionally be required to stoop, kneel and crouch;
• Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus;
• Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
• Be subject to outside environmental conditions with severe temperature changes and moderate to loud noise levels; and
• Subject to possible injury from vehicular traffic, thrown stones, etc.

Terms Of Employment
• 8 hours per day; 183 days per year
• Starting at $18.11 per hour
• Salary and benefits according to the agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Project Staff Employees.
