Position Summary The Patient Services Representative at Berks Community Health Center provides professional, patient-centered administrative support across all aspects of the patient experience, including registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and patient check-in/check-out. This role ensures accurate collection of demographics and UDS information, assists with billing and co-pays, and maintains compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies, contributing to a seamless, high-quality patient experience. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Manages patient registration, appointment scheduling, check-in/check-out, and collection of co-pays and deductibles. Collects, verifies, and updates patient demographic, insurance, and Uniform Data Set (UDS) information accurately and timely. Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility, assists with Medicaid/Medicare/CHIP screening, and collects sliding fee scale documentation as needed. Provides professional, courteous customer service and responds to patient inquiries regarding accounts, insurance, and appointments. Performs appointment reminder calls, follows up on no-show appointments, and updates patient information in the electronic medical record. Handles incoming phone calls and completes clerical tasks, forms, and administrative support activities as assigned. Completes daily closeout procedures, including reconciliation of cash and credit card transactions. Maintains strict patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA, state and federal regulations, and BCHC policies. Collaborates effectively with staff and contributes to a positive, patient-centered work environment. Performs other duties as assigned in support of BCHC’s mission and operations. Education and Requirements High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English and Spanish. Bilingual required. Two (2) years experience in medical / clinic setting with insurance verification preferred but not required. Training as a medical assistant, medical secretary or medical records from accredited school preferred, but not required. Functions in a multi-tasking, multiple priorities environment, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Performs all duties in a timely and accurate fashion. Utilizes a wide variety of office technology and tools to collect, enter, process, file patient records and documentation such as computers, adding machines, fax machines, phones and other related office equipment. Communicates with a diverse, sometimes difficult, patient/customer population. Will be required to effectively and politely manage patients and families in situations that can be stressful.
