CEDARVILLE ENGINEERING GROUP
Environmental Scientist
Get in the Field. Get the Data Right. Support the Mission.
About CEG
Cedarville Engineering Group (CEG) delivers design-build civil infrastructure and environmental remediation projects for federal agencies, including work on active military installations. Our projects directly support national defense, environmental restoration, and resilient infrastructure. We are a 50-person firm with offices in Pottstown, PA and Tampa, FL.
The Role
We are seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Pottstown, PA office and support a variety of government projects. This is a hands-on, field-and-office role in a lean firm where flexibility matters — one week you are collecting samples in the field, the next you are writing the report that backs them up.
This is field environmental work on real government projects:
• Soil and water sampling on government and military project sites
• Field data collection that holds up to scrutiny
• Report writing and technical documentation
• Natural resource and stormwater management project support
• Based in Pottstown, PA with approximately 25% travel
What This Role Really Is
You are the person who gets the data right.
You ensure:
• Field samples are collected, handled, and documented to protocol
• Findings are recorded accurately and reported clearly
• Deadlines are met without cutting corners on quality or safety
We are open to a range of experience, and we will invest in you. CEG provides training and supports the certifications you need to do the work — including OSHA certifications if you don't already hold them.
What You'll Do
Field Work & Sampling
• Collect soil and water samples on government and military project sites following established protocols and chain-of-custody requirements
• Perform field data collection, measurements, and observations, and maintain accurate field notes and logs
• Operate and calibrate field sampling and monitoring equipment
• Support site investigations, environmental monitoring, and remediation activities
Reporting & Documentation
• Write clear, accurate technical reports, field summaries, and supporting documentation
• Compile, organize, and quality-check field and laboratory data
• Contribute to permit applications, regulatory submittals, and project deliverables
Natural Resource & Stormwater Projects
• Support natural resource management projects, including wetlands, habitat, and environmental assessments
• Support stormwater management projects and MS4 and related regulatory compliance efforts
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and interdisciplinary teams to keep work moving
Health & Safety
• Follow all site health and safety plans and federal installation requirements
• Obtain and maintain OSHA certifications (HAZWOPER, OSHA 10/30/40 as applicable) — CEG will provide training if not already in place
• Help keep the field team safe and compliant on every site
What You Bring
Education (Required)
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, Environmental Studies, or a related field
Experience
• Open to a range of experience — recent graduates through experienced scientists are encouraged to apply
• Field, sampling, or environmental project experience is helpful but not required; we will train the right person
• Comfortable working outdoors and in the field across varying conditions and terrain
Certifications
• OSHA certifications (HAZWOPER, OSHA 10/30/40) required for fieldwork — CEG will provide training to obtain them if not already held
• Valid driver's license
Preferred
• Prior experience on federal or government projects
• Experience with soil and water sampling and chain-of-custody procedures
• Familiarity with natural resource or stormwater management programs
• Strong technical writing skills — turning field data into a clean report is a real plus
• Experience with GIS or data management tools
Capabilities
• Strong written communication — writing skills are a real differentiator in this role
• Flexible and willing to take on a variety of tasks as project needs change
• Detail-oriented and disciplined about data quality and documentation
• Able to work independently in the field and collaboratively with the team
• Willingness to travel (approximately 25%) and to obtain access to secured federal and military installations
What Matters Here – Our Core Values
• Responsive – You communicate clearly and act quickly
• Driven – You take ownership of outcomes
• Problem-Solver – You fix gaps, not just document them
• Growth Mindset – You keep learning and take on new skills as the work demands
• No Assholes – We hold the line and treat people right
If you want to sit at a desk and never get your boots dirty, this is not the place for you.
If you take pride in getting the data right — in the field and on the page — you'll fit.
Work Environment
• Based in the Pottstown, PA office
• Field work on government and military project sites
• Approximately 25% travel
• Work supports projects on secured federal and military installations
• Must be able to pass a federal background check
• REAL ID required
• Able to perform physical fieldwork, including lifting equipment and working outdoors in varying conditions
Why This Role Matters
The data you collect and the reports you write are the foundation of every environmental decision on the project.
Your role ensures:
• Our clients and the government can trust the findings we deliver
• Projects stay on schedule and on the right side of regulations
• The environments we protect and restore — including those on active military installations — are safeguarded for the mission and the future
This is not busywork. This is infrastructure that protects the mission.
