Under general supervision, this position supervises and coordinates the activities of Firefighters on assigned shifts, ensuring proper response to fire alarms in the protection of lives and property. Performs functions and operations to handle fireground and related emergencies efficiently. Ensures safety and supervision for the firefighters and citizens on the fireground. Provides training to subordinates, ensures that equipment and tools are correctly maintained, supervises the maintenance of the fire station building and grounds, promotes fire prevention education, and performs other related activities. Reports to the Fire Captain.
Education and Experience
High school Diploma or equivalent with a satisfactory performance evaluation as a FIRE SPECIALIST or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Successfully completed the following certifications as determined by the SC Fire Academy:
• Fire Instructor I
• Fire Officer I
• Incident Command
• National Incident Management System (NIMS) 700
• National Incident Management System (NIMS) 300
• Incident Safety Officer
• Company Level Leadership class
• Building Construction for the Company Officer
