Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
• Conduct population phenotyping studies to evaluate resistance to Aspergillus infection and aflatoxin contamination.
• Perform metabolomic, genotypic, and transcriptomic analyses to identify genetic mechanisms associated with resistance.
• Execute genetic mapping to link phenotypic traits with underlying genetic markers.
• Utilize and manage research materials generated in laboratory, greenhouse, and field environments to support experimental objectives.
Percentage of time 45 Duties/Responsibilities
• Collect research samples from laboratory, greenhouse, and field environments in accordance with study protocols.
• Perform molecular assays including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, and digital PCR techniques.
• Prepare, process, and analyze biological samples to support experimental objectives.
• Maintain accurate records of sample collection and laboratory assay results.

• Sort and process data using computational methods to support research and reporting needs.
• Develop and manage spreadsheets, documents, and presentations to ensure accurate data tracking and communication.
• Apply a high level of organization and attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity.

The Post-Doctoral AD position is housed in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Georgia’s Tifton Campus. The Post-doctoral associate will explore genetic mechanisms of resistance to Aspergillus infection and aflatoxin contamination through population phenotyping, metabolomics, genotyping, genetic mapping, and transcriptome analysis utilizing materials generated in the laboratory, greenhouse, and field.
This is a limited-term position expected to end one year after the start date. Renewal or extension beyond the initial term is anticipated but not guaranteed and will depend on project needs, the availability of funding, and job performance. The position may be renewed on an annual basis, contingent upon continued grant support.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification In Position
• PhD in plant biology, genetics, or breeding-related field.
• Molecular and cellular biology knowledge and skills.
• Some experience with metabolomics and bioinformatics.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proven publication record.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Work independently, as well as an integral member of a team,
• Experience with breeding, metabolomics, and molecular genetics including computational expertise is required.
• Knowledge of stress physiology.
