Compensation: $150,000 - $175,000
A leading provider of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) services is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee multi-site operations, drive organizational performance, and support continued growth.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, quality service delivery, and organizational effectiveness across all programs and locations.
This executive leader will oversee Regional Directors and other operational leaders while providing strategic guidance, performance management, and operational oversight. The ideal candidate will possess a strong IDD background, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to serve as a trusted partner to the CEO. This individual must be capable of stepping into executive leadership responsibilities and representing the organization as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership
• Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team
• Provide leadership and direction for day-to-day operations across multiple service lines and locations
• Assist in developing and executing organizational strategy, goals, and growth initiatives
• Act on behalf of the CEO when designated, supporting executive decision-making and organizational leadership
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence
Operational Oversight
• Direct and oversee Regional Directors and other operational leadership staff
• Ensure high-quality, person-centered services are delivered consistently across all programs
• Monitor operational performance, quality outcomes, compliance metrics, and key performance indicators
• Identify opportunities for operational improvement, efficiency, and growth
• Lead initiatives focused on quality enhancement, employee engagement, and service excellence
Compliance & Quality
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, regulatory, and accreditation requirements
• Maintain strong knowledge of IDD regulations, best practices, and industry trends
• Oversee quality management and risk mitigation efforts
• Support organizational readiness for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews
Financial & Strategic Management
• Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, resource allocation, and financial performance
• Monitor operational metrics and utilize data to drive decision-making
• Support expansion initiatives, acquisitions, and organizational growth opportunities
• Develop and implement strategies that improve organizational effectiveness and service outcomes
External Leadership
• Represent the organization with regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, referral sources, and strategic partners
• Build and maintain strong relationships within the IDD and human services communities
• Serve as an ambassador for the organization's mission and values
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience within the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) field
• Significant experience overseeing multi-site operations and large teams
• Experience leading Regional Directors, Directors, or other senior operational leaders
• Strong understanding of IDD regulations, compliance requirements, and service delivery models
• Proven track record of operational leadership, organizational growth, and performance improvement
• Experience managing large-scale budgets and operational performance
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship management skills
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at the executive level
• Ability to step into CEO-level responsibilities when needed
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field
• Experience within a large IDD, behavioral health, or human services organization
• Experience leading organizational growth and transformation initiatives
• Prior executive leadership experience as a COO, Vice President, Senior Director, or Regional Executive
