Position Summary
The Security Systems and Access Control Manager reports to the Associate Director for Facilities and provides leadership and oversight for security systems, access control operations, key and lock management, and disability-related access systems within University Housing. This position is responsible for developing and implementing security strategies, managing security infrastructure and related processes, identifying and mitigating security risks, and improving operational effectiveness.
The position supervises two Locksmiths, two Security Systems Integrators, one Access Control Coordinator, and student assistants. In collaboration with University Housing leadership, campus partners, and vendors, this role supports the security and accessibility needs of more than 9,000 residents across 23 residence halls and 20 apartment buildings, including oversight of access-controlled doors and a residential surveillance camera network.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
(50%) Security Systems and Access Control Oversight:
• Lead the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of University Housing security systems, access control systems, key and lock programs, and disability-related access technologies.
• Identify process improvements associated with shop activities. Ensure processes include documentation and communication.
• Represent the department regarding security systems during strategic exercises. This includes new construction, major renovations and systems upgrades.
• Schedule and perform routine preventative maintenance activities to minimize security system vulnerabilities. Routinely evaluate the effectiveness of current solutions and report perceived deficiencies and recommended solutions to departmental administration.
• Advise and assist with security improvements when determined. Lead discussions with departmental administration and stakeholders regarding security systems. Implement approved improvements and changes.
(20%) Systems, Parts, Supplies, and Tools:
• Maintain an inventory of parts, supplies and tools necessary to support the maintenance for University Housing’s lock/key, student accommodations, electronic access control and other security systems replacement program.
• Oversee, maintain and continually improve all business platforms which include multiple databases, access control utilized for key and electronic code tracking purposes.
• Programming stand-alone electronic locks with proprietary Schlage HHD.
• Provide support and oversite of access control systems.
(20%) Supervision:
• Directly supervise two Locksmiths, two Security Systems Integrators, one Access Control Coordinator, and student employees.
• Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and employee development activities.
• Actively promote and participate in the development, retention & engagement of each staff member.
• Responsible for employee relations and compliance with organization policies and procedures.
(10%) Other duties:
• Provide on-call training maintenance personnel to service key and access control systems after-hours.
• Oversee the issue and transfer of University Housing’s employee’s keys.
• Remain knowledgeable of workplace rules and guidelines and stay in compliance with UGA policies and procedures
• Effectively communicate and collaborate in a professional and consistent manner with a wide variety of individuals or groups such as residential building services workers, residence hall staff, students/families and other maintenance team members via radio, telephone, or in person.
• Perform related work as required based on duties consistent with the purpose of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
• Five years relevant leadership experience working within higher education, hospitality or medical facilities.
• Five years of project management experience specific to developing and improving organizational processes.
