Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be a key contributor to solving some of the toughest challenges in space and aviation. You will be part of a team that provides pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and software solutions to meet the needs of today's space and aviation customers. This role supports research and new product development within the Mission Systems Division, focusing on safe, reliable, and field-proven technologies.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate and execute product design activities in accordance with project cost and schedule constraints.
• Develop conceptual designs into mature product solutions.
• Manage technical risk through exhaustive identification and prioritization of risk mitigation activities.
• Develop engineering standards and design guides to support continuous improvement.
• Work to Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles, ensuring critical quality requirements are met throughout the design lifecycle.
• Collaborate with internal and external customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to develop systems and products.
• Coach junior engineers within your specified domain.
Essential Skills • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 3 years of system product design development and/or production design problem resolution experience.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD.
• Strong understanding of drawing standards and application of GD&T.
• Demonstrated technical leadership skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• US person status as defined by ITAR.
Additional Skills & Qualifications • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Design for Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt.
• Aerospace or defense experience.
• New Product Introduction (NPI) experience.
• Valve design or fluid systems background.
• Sealing technology experience (O-rings, static, dynamic seals).
• Exposure to DFSS or APQP tools.
• Failure analysis and testing experience.
• Experience with solenoids or electromechanical systems.
Work Environment The role is based in a manufacturing/shop floor environment with a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. You will have the opportunity to work on high-impact aerospace products, engaging in new product development from concept through testing and release. This environment provides depth in high-pressure pneumatics, hydraulics, and fluid systems while building skills in structured engineering practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westminster, MD.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
