Veterinary Assistant / Animal Technician
Job Tittle: Animal Research Technician
Location: Athens, GA
Duration: 12 months (potential for full-time conversion)
Schedule: Mon–Fri, 8 AM–4:30 PM (40 hrs/week)
Overtime: One weekend per month
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide daily animal care and husbandry per federal and institutional guidelines.
• Assist with scientific procedures, clinical observations, and sample collection (pre- and post-mortem).
• Maintain accurate records for animal health, treatments, and study protocols.
• Support facility sanitation, equipment maintenance, and biosecurity measures.
• May administer treatments, sedation, or euthanasia under supervision.
• Guide junior staff and participate in site committees as needed.
Skills & Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work in extreme conditions (hot, cold, humid, etc.).
• Must be comfortable working with animals and not have related allergies.
• Clear vision (corrective eyewear permitted) and sound judgment essential.
