Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of high-reliability mechanical systems. This role involves concept development, system and component analysis, and ensuring all technical specifications and requirements are met. The engineer will guide the development of systems and components through production, including prototyping, testing, and commissioning.
Responsibilities
• Develop mechanical and physical concepts and design processes for high-reliability products or facilities, prioritizing safety.
• Identify, document, and coordinate applicable requirements, interfaces, design basis, and criteria with stakeholders and systems engineers.
• Plan and perform analyses to ensure structures and systems meet intended functions and design requirements.
• Conduct computations using hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other necessary calculations.
• Develop innovative mechanical solutions for systems such as pressure vessels, piping, electromechanical systems, and more.
• Integrate design activities across engineering teams, partners, and suppliers, supporting calculations to meet design requirements.
• Create and maintain CAD-generated engineering models.
• Assess manufacturability and integration considerations of mechanical systems.
• Develop design documentation, including technical reports, calculations, and drawings.
• Develop Verification and Validation (V&V) plans and support the qualification of toolsets.
• Ensure project quality requirements are met through adherence to quality procedures.
• Provide independent reviews of engineering deliverables and data.
• Maintain professional demeanor and communication at all times.
Essential Skills
• Must have 5+ years of Mechanical Design Engineering for complex systems in a regulated environment
• Hands-on experience with hardware and product development lifecycle through to production.
• Esuch as axperience in highly regulated industries Aerospace, Clean Energy, Government, Automotive, Defense
• Mechanical component level and assembly Level design experience with high-pressure vessels, fluid systems, reactors, and more.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Proficiency with engineering hand calculations.
• Experience designing and developing complex mechanical systems or components.
• Two or more years of hands-on experience developing hardware or manufacturing processes in a production environment.
• Experience with CAD and PLM software (e.g., UG/NX, Solidworks, CREO/Pro-Engineer, Teamcenter, Windchill).
• Preferred experience with commercial nuclear power plant operations and design codes such as ASME BPVC Sections III and VIII.
• Leadership or managerial experience in engineering settings.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $80.00/hr.
