Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Westminster, MD Pay Rate: $60/hr The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead research, design, development, testing, and certification activities for aerospace new product development projects, with a focus on high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will coordinate cross-functional engineering efforts, manage technical risk, and ensure projects meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives while applying Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will also provide technical leadership, support continuous improvement initiatives, and mentor junior engineers within the organization. Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities: Lead research, design, development, testing, and certification activities for new aerospace product development projects. Coordinate and execute mechanical design activities while maintaining project cost and schedule requirements. Develop conceptual product designs into fully engineered and production-ready solutions. Perform engineering analysis, risk assessment, and technical planning to support assigned projects. Manage technical risk through identification, prioritization, and implementation of mitigation strategies and data-driven design improvements. Support the development and implementation of engineering standards, design guides, and continuous improvement initiatives. Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles throughout the product lifecycle, including Critical to Quality (CTQ) management, design validation, manufacturing variation analysis, and design for manufacturability and assembly. Collaborate cross-functionally with customers, suppliers, project engineers, manufacturing, quality, testing, sustainment teams, and program management to develop and improve systems and products. Provide technical leadership for large-scale projects and multiple concurrent engineering initiatives. Support new product introduction activities related to high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components. Communicate technical concepts and project updates effectively to internal and external stakeholders. Mentor and coach junior engineers within the mechanical engineering discipline. Contribute to achieving team objectives while supporting customer requirements and business goals. Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering 3+ years of experience in system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution Obtain leadership skills in working with cross-functional teams Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak with customers Proficient in SolidWorks Strong understanding of drawing standards and application of GD&T Experience with aerospace new product introduction methods, regulatory standards, and certifications Knowledge of DFSS or APQP tools and methodologies Experience with failure investigations of technical products or systems Understanding of high-pressure pneumatic systems, pneumatic or hydraulic valve design, and valve sealing technology Knowledge of static and dynamic seal design Familiarity with stress analysis, including static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration, and acceleration analysis Experience with steady-state and dynamic performance modeling Knowledge of electromagnetics, control systems, and thermodynamics Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Additional Skills: Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Design for Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification Experience with solenoid valves and latch valve technologies Advanced knowledge of aerospace system design and product certification processes Experience supporting continuous improvement and advanced engineering initiatives Mentoring or coaching experience within engineering teams $0 per YEAR Employment Type: CONTRACT
