General Definition of Work:
Prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills necessary to install, operate, maintain and repair electrically energized residential, commercial and industrial systems, and DC and AC motors, controls and electrical distribution panels. Instructs practical application of mathematics, science, circuit diagrams and use of electrical codes and includes blueprint reading, sketching and other subjects essential for employment in the electrical occupations. Reads and interprets commercial and residential construction wiring codes and specifications, installation and maintenance of wiring, service and distribution networks within large construction complexes are also critical components of the program.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

• Assesses the instructional requirements of students and provides orientation and instruction in electrical career and technical education related competencies.
• Ensures that curriculum standards set by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) are incorporated into the educational program.
• Stays informed of technological advances in the area of specialization, such as Alternative energy sources, energy conservation, photovoltaic solar panel systems. Fiber Optics low-voltage wiring, monitoring home entertainment & security systems.
• Monitors student progress and assesses their skills according to standardized measurements.
• Participates in the development of Work Based Learning (WBL) for students.
• Ensures that students have a variety of school and work-based experiences.
• Prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills to engage in the servicing and maintenance of all types of electrical wiring equipment.
• Provides training in the proper use of tools and equipment related to the electrical industry, instructs students in all related (OSHA) safety procedures safety certification acquisitions and electrical building codes protocols.
• Complete and provide district required in-service training and state mandated trainings.
• Address all other duties as assigned by the CTE Principal/Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of:
• the electrical trades industry.
• the modern methods, theories and practices in electrical trades.
• the materials and techniques used in electrical trades.
• the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to electrical trades.
• the proper care and use of tools and instruments used in electrical trades.
• personal computers, spreadsheet and word processing software applications.
Demonstrated ability to:
• select and organize curriculum content and to apply appropriate instructional methods.
• implement assessment tools for effective student evaluations.
• communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• establish effective working relationships.
Education and Experience:
• Holds a High School Diploma or higher.
• Holds a Journeyman or Master electrical license in Virginia.
• Minimum of 2 years of full-time electrical experience within the last five years
• NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) credentials and certifications are preferred but not required.
• OSHA 30 license is preferred but not required.
