How You Will Make an Impact
The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and auditing the controls and automation systems used in Reading Truck Group’s operations. The Controls Engineer advances the controls and automation systems used in operations at Reading Truck Group by developing project scopes, designs, specifications, evaluation of alternatives, cost estimates, and implementing the designs that result in safer, more productive, more cost effective, improved quality processes and operations.
The Nuts and Bolts
Improve the existing controls and automation systems and processes
Ensure proper and safe operation of controls and automation systems, and communicate issues effectively to leadership
Develop, design, specify, test and maintain records for controls and automation systems to optimize manufacturing process, including safety, quality and efficiency
Advance the manufacturing and assembly processes and Reading’s manufacturing competitiveness through the implementation of robotics and automation at Reading Truck Group locations
Project manage controls and automation projects
Collaborate with IT group to design systems that will reduce labor compliment, improve productivity, improve quality, and reduce costs
Promote company safety policies and develop technical solutions to improve operational safety
Work with maintenance team, and outside contractors to implement new controls and automation processes, improve performance, and minimize equipment downtime
Actively support in the daily activities of production teams
Support and participate in lean initiatives, and develop the assembly and manufacturing processes to provide customers with products that meet or exceed customer requirements and drive continuous safety, quality and productivity improvements
Keep the leadership regularly updates of the key metrics and progress of each project
Perform other duties as required or directed by the management
Position Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience required
Experience:
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience overall in the following areas
Proven experience in controls and automation specification, design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting is required
Experience programming PLC logic, HMI, and SCADA systems is required
Robotics programming experience is preferred
Five (5) years of experience in automotive or related industry is preferred
Experience with Lean Manufacturing is preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Proficient with PLC, HMI, SCADA, Robotics, and industrial controls systems design, troubleshooting, and maintenance abilities
Ability to program robotics (Fanuc is preferred)
Understanding of Ethernet-based networking and industrial network protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus)
Understanding of electrical circuits, electrical schematics and the ability to create, modify, review and document them using AutoCAD
Familiar with various electromechanical mechanisms (motors, actuators, sensors, controllers)
Ability to systematically troubleshoot problems, identify issues and propose solutions to resolve them
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required
Excellent organizational and documentation skills
Effective Project Management skills, oral and written communication; excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to engage peers, and other associates to solve problems and develop improved methods
Working knowledge of fabrication, assembly, manufacturing, and coating processes
Ability to collaborate with a multiple departments and multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to oversee, guide, and train engineering technicians, maintenance personnel, and operations personnel
