POSITION SUMMARY
The Family Engagement Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the school community by connecting families with necessary services and monitoring student attendance to understand the reasons behind absences. This role bridges the learning environments between home and school, helps families set and track educational and developmental goals, and guides them towards achieving these goals through coordinated services. The Family Engagement Specialist ensures effective communication with parents and school staff and provides language support by translating documents and interpreting during school meetings and appointments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
• Associate’s degree
• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, sociology, psychology or related field preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
• Valid Georgia Driver’s License
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint
• Background Clearance
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish preferred

Skills-based Competencies
Required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and planning and managing projects.

Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Generally ranges from 5-10 bullet points)
• Serves as the liaison between the school and parents, relaying the academic needs of one to the other.
• Supports families for the purpose of becoming partners in their children’s education at home and with teachers by aiding in the understanding of school academic standards, core curriculum, and assessments.
• Coordinates a variety of meetings and activities (parent training, program events, parent committee meetings, etc.) for the purpose of delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.
• Develops a variety of reports (daily, monthly, quarterly, and annually, etc.) for the purpose of monitoring services provided for children and families.
• Engages families to participate in various available programs for the purpose of making positive gains in child development, family self-sufficiency, and accomplishment of family goals.
• Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (child and family records, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference while complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
• Monitors child and family case management for the purpose of ensuring documentation of child and family case management meets program and governmental requirements.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars (staffing meetings, staff development, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
• Prepares a variety of materials (reports, letters, memos, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
• Responds to inquiries (parents, staff, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, facilitating communication among parties, and/or providing information or directions.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
