Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Lead and conduct laboratory research on plant diseases. Such activities include but are not limited to preparation of media, pathogen isolation, DNA extraction, molecular testing, gel electrophoresis, purification of samples for long-term storage.
Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
Collect soil samples from field, planting, and harvesting crops in field, maintaining field trials; maintaining greenhouse plants and cultures, and greenhouse experiments.

Extracting nematodes from soil samples and enumerating nematode egg populations.

Contribute to the preparation of research and extension publications, and extension trainings, reports and power point presentations.

This role will support Dr. Alejandra Jimenez Madrid and will assist with routine molecular diagnostics for diverse samples, including isolation of plant pathogens, DNA extraction, conduct PCR, gel electrophoresis and qPCR. The ideal candidate is expected to perform lab work and field sampling, analyze data, prepare and present data results. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a passion for plant science and plant pathology, basic knowledge in scientific and mathematical concepts (e.g., serial dilution, plant physiology, and microbiology), and possess strong communication skills, both written and oral. Attention to detail, punctuality, and perseverance are also key qualities sought in applicants.
