Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern PA is an 86 bed acute-care Joint Commission Accredited psychiatric hospital that offers care for adults dealing with mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating the mental health needs of the patient. The PMHNP works collaboratively with the psychiatrist to formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order and interpret results from laboratory tests, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans’ Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement Standards.
Essential Functions:
• Diagnosing, conducting, and prescribing medications for patients having psychiatric-mental health problems.
• Responsible for providing emergency psychiatric services, physician and psycho-social examinations of their patients.
• Developing appropriate treatment plan and providing effective management of patient care with proper evaluation.
• Consulting with patients and families having multiple and complex disorders; and working in a collaborative and integrative roles with primary healthcare providers.
• Performing invasive procedures.
• Educating patients on positive health promoting lifestyle choices and diseases, injury and illness prevention.
Requirements
Educational / Experience Requirements:
• Must have a Master’s degree in Nursing. Current RN License in the state where practicing, and certification to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the state where practicing.
Qualifications / Skills:
• Must be flexible with work schedule. Involves discretion and independent action within prescribed limits. This position requires a sound knowledge of nursing practice.
• Should demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems and utilize appropriate steps for problem resolution, ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
• Must be competent in the areas of interpersonal communications, excellent verbal and written skills, knowledge of Medicare and regulatory and credentialing criteria standards, knowledge of safety standards, spread of organisms, and the adult learning process. Must be competent in the provision of nursing care. Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
Work Environment:
• Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
