Job Responsibilities Operates large centerline paint machine, keeps machine and lines clean, loads paint and glass beads onto paint machine, and paints pavement markings throughout a district. Assists with the installation of thermoplastic pavement markings. Serves as Specialty Crew Leader and instructs crewmembers daily in safety practices such as flagging operations, wearing safety equipment, vehicle safety, or when working with hazardous material and waste. Produces daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as Highway Maintenance Management System and the maintenance requests and complaint forms. Operates various equipment to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Sets up traffic control according to South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Standards to warn motorists of road work ahead. Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Operates tandem dump truck in hauling maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipes, asphalt, and dirt. Performs other job related duties.
Minimum and Additional Requirements Two and one-half (2.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
