Position Summary
The Director of Transportation is responsible for overseeing the district's student transportation programs and services. This role involves providing guidance, serving as a key resource to others, and ensuring that transportation services are planned, evaluated, developed, implemented, and maintained according to established guidelines. The position focuses on meeting specific objectives to ensure efficient and effective transportation for all students.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in business education, education administration, or transportation preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Demonstrated work history and expertise in student transportation management

Skills-based Competencies
Required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; budgeting and financial management; and developing effective working relationships.
Knowledge-based Competencies

Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Generally ranges from 5-10 bullet points)
• Assesses incidents, complaints, and accidents to determine resolutions and ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements.
• Collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to implement and maintain transportation services and programs.
• Compiles and analyzes data from various sources including complaints and budget reports to monitor program components and ensure policy compliance.
• Conducts thorough accident investigations, preparing and submitting reports to meet legal and insurance requirements.
• Coordinates transportation activities with school officials and department heads to meet the district's transportation needs efficiently.
• Directs operations of the transportation department, including service maintenance and the implementation of new technologies and programs.
• Facilitates meetings, workshops, and seminars to address issues, develop solutions, support staff, and represent the district.
• Monitors financial activities related to the transportation budget to ensure accurate allocations, record-keeping, and adherence to fiscal practices.
• Participates in various professional development events to gather and convey information essential for departmental functions.
• Manages personnel functions such as recruiting, training, and supervising staff to enhance productivity and achieve departmental goals.
• Prepares a wide range of materials like route reports and state compliance documents to document activities and support audits and requests.
• Provides and manages job-related training for all transportation staff, ensuring compliance with legal mandates and enhancing job performance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
