A postdoctoral research position is available in the Department of Poultry Science to study physiological effects of enteric diseases and how they influence the regulation of growth, metabolism, and nutrient utilization. The research is focused on understanding metabolic consequences of enteric disease, identifying biomarkers associated with disease severity, and investigating strategies to mitigate consequences of enteric disease.
The individual will be expected to independently conduct whole animal and cellular and molecular studies, coordinate sample collection and analysis, conduct data and sample analyses, perform statistical analysis of data, and prepare results for presentation at scientific meetings and publication in scientific journals. Additional duties will include reading scientifically relevant literature, writing and assisting with preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, assisting with preparation of grant proposals, and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
The successful candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in poultry or animal sciences, physiology, immunology, or a related field and experience studying enteric diseases. Good written and oral communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English are required. Prior experience with poultry handling and management, molecular and cellular techniques, hormone and metabolite assays, histology, and cell culture are highly desirable. Strong candidates will also have a record of publication.

A Ph.D. in poultry or animal science, physiology, immunology, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
• Experience working with poultry and administering enteric disease challenges
• Laboratory skills that include molecular and cellular techniques, hormone/metabolite assays, histological methods, and/or cell culture
• Statistical analysis, presentation, and interpretation of data using common software packages
• Written and oral scientific communication (manuscript publication, conference presentation, grant proposals) and fluency in spoken and written English
