About the Township: Exeter Township is a vibrant community located in southeastern Berks County, Pennsylvania, approximately 6 miles east of Reading. With a population of around 25,500, it is the third-most populous municipality in the county. Covering roughly 24 square miles, the Township offers a mix of suburban neighborhoods, historical landmarks, and scenic natural areas. Position Overview: Exeter Township is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Public Works. This position plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily operations of the Highway Department, supporting the Director of Public Works through supervisory and administrative responsibilities. Duties include planning and assigning construction, repair, and seasonal maintenance projects; training, supervising, and evaluating staff; and overseeing a range of services such as road paving, stormwater system maintenance, snow and ice removal, signage installation, mowing, and groundskeeping. This position also manages Township vehicles, equipment, and security systems, assists in developing and adhering to the annual departmental budget, and ensures compliance with CDL and safety regulations. The Assistant Director responds to emergency situations, supervises snow removal callouts, and attends Board of Supervisors and staff meetings as needed. Typical work hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Occasional evenings and emergency callouts are required. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and have a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, municipal infrastructure, or a related field such as street or highway maintenance. A valid Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
