Position Overview:
The Mechanical Engineering Manager leads and supports the mechanical engineering team at a renowned packaging company. This working manager role is responsible for ensuring complete and accurate design specifications, on-time project delivery, successful startup, and final qualification—meeting customer expectations while achieving profit goals. The Mechanical Engineering Manager provides leadership to drive excellence in execution and establishes engineering team goals that align with the company's overall strategy.
Must-Haves:
1.) Minimum 6-8 years in mechanical engineering design involving complex electro-mechanical equipment in an OEM machine building environment
2.) Prior engineering team management experience involving direct reports (lead experience only will not suffice)
3.) Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
Nice-to-Haves:
• Versed in engineering design projects for complex, automated packaging machinery
Responsibilities:
• Plan and oversee all mechanical engineering activities in alignment with company's strategy; establish project priorities.
• Manage resources to minimize backlogs and queue all machine projects.
• Assign projects to engineers and monitor the quality and progress of each project; responsible for meeting release dates, ensuring production requirements for delivery on time and in full.
• Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with company's design standards.
• Approves mechanical engineering designs; for new equipment or major design changes, collaborates with and gets approval from the Senior Director of Engineering/General Manager.
• Serve as primary source of expertise for specified product lines; support sales in technical aspects of machines, providing the insight necessary to establish the appropriate design criteria.
• Communicate at all levels both internal and external to assure excellence in execution.
• Provide accurate and timely forecasts, activity reports, and project status as requested.
• Coordinate all resources with other managers and departments as business needs demand.
• Advise manufacturing and service personnel on proper operation of systems; provides support for and troubleshoots mechanical problems.
