Surveyor (PLS)
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) – Field & Project Execution
CEG is a Civil and Environmental Design-Build firm solving infrastructure problems for public sector clients. We are seeking a licensed Professional Land Surveyor to execute survey work across a range of projects. This role is hands-on and intended for a mid-career professional who is comfortable working in the field, leading crews, and contributing to project delivery from start to finish.
This is not a sales-focused position. The emphasis is on technical execution, field leadership, and supporting project planning through clear scopes and proposals developed within established company processes.
Role Overview
This position is centered on doing the work—leading field efforts, ensuring accurate data collection, and supporting project delivery through well-defined internal systems.
Key responsibilities include:
• Perform and lead field survey operations across multiple project types;
• Execute control, boundary, topographic, design, construction, and right-of-way surveys;
• Conduct deed research and boundary analysis, including resolution of property issues;
• Perform GPS static surveys, post-processing, and RTK site calibrations;
• Support construction staking, pipeline and transmission line surveys, and ALTA/NSPS surveys;
• Supervise field crews and ensure high-quality data collection and documentation;
• Perform QA/QC on field data, calculations, and final deliverables;
• Coordinate with internal teams to support timely and accurate project delivery;
• Prepare scopes, schedules, and fee proposals using established company templates and processes; and
• Maintain clear, professional communication with internal teams and clients.
Qualifications
Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Pennsylvania required; additional states a plus:
• Approximately 8–15 years of progressive surveying experience;
• Strong field background with willingness to remain actively involved in field work;
• Experience leading crews and managing day-to-day survey operations;
• Proficiency with total stations, levels, GNSS/RTK systems, and data collectors;
• Working knowledge of survey software and data processing workflows;
• Ability to follow established procedures for project execution and proposals; and
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience
• Solid understanding of survey principles, coordinate systems, and computations;
• Familiarity with construction plans and staking requirements;
• Experience preparing technical deliverables, reports, and survey drawings;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word);
• Exposure to 3D scanning, UAV surveying, or other emerging technologies; and
• Strong attention to detail and documentation practices.
What This Role Requires
• A hands-on approach—this role involves regular field work;
• Ownership of work quality from data collection through final deliverables;
• Ability to execute within defined systems rather than create new ones; and
• Willingness to support proposals as part of project delivery—not business development.
