What We Look For In a ISEE- Lower Level Tutor
• Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of ISEE Lower Level sections including Verbal Reasoning with synonyms and sentence completions, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics Achievement covering arithmetic, basic geometry, and pre-algebra for students entering grades five and six. Ability to explain stanine scoring and percentile rankings while preparing young students for independent school admissions.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching age-appropriate test-taking strategies including vocabulary context clues, process of elimination, and systematic problem-solving for Lower Level ISEE. Guides students through reading passage annotation, word relationship identification, multi-step arithmetic problems, and basic geometry calculations. Emphasizes building test confidence and reducing anxiety while developing critical thinking skills appropriate for fourth and fifth grade students.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with ISEE Lower Level content scope and common challenges such as unfamiliar vocabulary, reading stamina for multiple passages, and multi-step math problems above current grade level. Adapts instruction using official ERB practice materials, vocabulary building programs, and timed section practice to support fourth and fifth grade students seeking admission to competitive independent schools.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
