What We Look For In a Basic Computer Literacy Tutor
• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of computer hardware basics, operating system navigation, file management, internet browsing, email usage, word processing, basic spreadsheets, online safety, and digital communication tools. Ability to explain file organization, web browser functionality, password security, and basic troubleshooting while preparing students for essential digital skills needed in education, employment, and daily life.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching computer fundamentals through patient, step-by-step instruction for new users. Guides students through turning on and navigating a computer, organizing files in folders, using a web browser for information, creating and managing email accounts, writing documents, and staying safe online. Emphasizes building confidence with technology and connects basic computer skills to job applications, online services, and digital communication.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with basic computer literacy curricula and common challenges such as mouse and keyboard unfamiliarity, file management confusion, and online safety awareness gaps. Adapts instruction using hands-on practice, simplified visual guides, and patient repetition to support adult learners, seniors, and others new to technology building essential digital literacy skills for personal and professional independence.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
