Position Summary:
The Manager of Workers Compensation provides oversight and management of over $100 million of open workers’ compensation claims liability including runoff claims assumed from acquisitions.  Responsible for developing training, reporting procedures and process measures which directly affect the company’s bottom line and an annual workers’ compensation budget of $80 million.  Coordinate with the safety departments to protect the company’s most important asset, its’ human capital.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide technical expertise, guidance, support, and back up to claims examiners. Conduct team meetings, share information, coordinate efforts within the team and between other areas of the company. 
Coordinate and direct field, safety, and human resources in claims reporting, trending and loss prevention and / or accident and injury mitigation and control.
Manage, monitor and control the process of handling high-deductible claims, establishing processes and audits of third-party administrators.   
Review internal and external teams to include measurements of files touched and quality and effectiveness of claims handing and compliance with state, federal, and provincial laws and OSHA reporting and recording requirements.   
Develop and implement policies and procedures for reporting and processing workers’ compensation claims and coordinating and encouraging the use of modified duty assignments. 
Provide data and analysis to operations, safety, human resources to assist in identifying areas of opportunity to decrease claims costs. 
Create and deliver training material and presentations to frontline supervisors, management, human resources, operations safety on workers’ compensation reporting, accident investigation, return to work, and accident prevention.

Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree is required. Substituting a combination of advanced learning and experience may be possible depending on the depth of each possessed by the incumbent.       Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a supervisory role with an emphasis on high dollar valued serious claims. Experience in handling all lines of insurance coverage required.Excellent negotiation skills in dealing with claims and personnel issues as well as operations and company management.Professional communication written and verbal with all levels of company associates, attorneys, customers and insurance carriers. Motivated, dependable and have the ability to motivate others. Knowledge in Microsoft office products like Word, Excel & PowerPoint.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the jobWillingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.Physical Requirements:• The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
