Safety Coordinator
Brief Description
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace safety programs that promote a safe and compliant manufacturing environment. This role produces professional safety documentation, identifies and mitigates workplace risks, and educates employees on best practices to reduce or eliminate hazards. The Safety Coordinator works closely with employees and leadership to ensure regulatory compliance, lead safety initiatives, and support a strong safety culture throughout the organization. This position is based on-site at our Solomon, Kansas facility and may require up to 15% travel as needed to support business operations.
• Conduct new hire safety onboarding and training programs.
• Plan, deliver, and ensure compliance with monthly safety training sessions.
• Manage hoist and mobile equipment certifications, ensuring operator licenses remain current.
• Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for safety incidents, injuries, near misses, and first aid events.
• Lead and support the Safety Committee, including meeting facilitation and action tracking.
• Conduct weekly and monthly safety audits across the facility.
• Oversee fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance programs.
• Perform hoist, sling, and lifting equipment inspections.
• Maintain safety forms, records, and other administrative safety documentation.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure safe operating condition.
• Verify facility compliance with electrical, environmental, and safety codes.
• Promote and lead initiatives that strengthen the company’s safety culture.
• Lead facility safety initiatives, audits, and improvement projects.
• Model professional behavior and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce safety risks.
• Support operational goals by recommending hazard reduction strategies.
• Maintain high standards of internal and external customer service related to safety objectives.
• Lead the corrective action process following safety incidents and ensure actions remain implemented.
• Remove operational obstacles related to safety while helping avoid production disruptions.
• Demonstrate and enforce safe work practices and proper use of safety equipment.
• Audit Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) processes to verify compliance and effective knowledge transfer to employees.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Occupational Safety, or related field required.
• 2–5 years of professional safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment with an established safety program.
• Experience with EH&S data management systems; safety tracking software experience preferred.
• Mechanical or industrial equipment experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of OSHA standards, safety regulations, and emergency preparedness procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct training and safety presentations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proven leadership, management, and supervisory capabilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
• Advanced safety training or professional certifications preferred.
• Positive, cooperative attitude with strong teamwork and customer service orientation.
• Ability to assist team members and support departmental workload as needed.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining safe work practices.
• Professional conduct and communication at all times.
• Ability to learn additional functional areas to support operational needs.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to move throughout the facility to conduct inspections, audits, and safety assessments
