Summary
• The Senior Cost Accountant is a results-oriented team player who can work across the organization to complete financial reporting as well as daily operational financial requirements.
• The Senior Cost Accountant will complete daily operational financial functions using accounting rules established by US GAAP, as well as practices and internal controls established by RWDC Industries, LLC.
• The accountant will have a robust understanding or experience with an ERP system as well as strong knowledge of data management tools including lookups, fills, and pivot tables in excel. The role will require the ability to implement new functionality in the ERP system. This increased functionality will allow RWDC to automate many manual processes and to automate and streamline reporting. Experience in the use and implementation of Infor and/or Oracle accounting systems would be very helpful.
• The primary focus of the position will be Cost Accounting as well as operational reporting, but the position will also have a number of General Accounting responsibilities.
Senior Cost Accountant – Key Responsibilities Lead and Improve Standard Costing
• Develop, refine, and maintain standard costing methodologies; implement changes within the ERP system.
• Own Production Costing & Variance Analysis
• Produce routine production and cost reports; deliver price/quantity variance analysis and margin insights to leadership.
• Manage Inventory Accounting & Controls
• Reconcile production and inventory balances, support cycle counts, evaluate reserves (including LCM and obsolescence), and process necessary adjustments.
• Maintain Cost Structures & Bills of Material/Labor
• Partner with production to update BOMs/BOLs, resolve system input errors, and ensure accurate raw material, WIP, and finished goods costing.
• Oversee Overhead & Labor Cost Tracking
• Develop and maintain overhead allocation methods; manage detailed labor and overhead tracking to ensure alignment with actual costs.
• Support Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
• Perform production/inventory reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, COGS calculations, and contribute to balance sheet accuracy.
• Provide Cost Monitoring & Cross Functional Insights
• Monitor material and supply cost trends, communicate variances to purchasing, and support budgeting, forecasting, and expansion analyses.
• Govern ERP Costing Data & Future Cost Team
• Maintain ERP cost and inventory modules, create new item setups, document processes, train users, support audits, and lead the future cost accounting team.
Qualifications
• Experience:
• 5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong background in inventory accounting, variance analysis, and standard costing.
• Education:
• BS in Accounting or Operations/Logistics (Accounting preferred).
• Skills & Competencies:
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to work cross functionally with production, supply chain, and finance.
• Strong communication skills and capability to present financial insights to leadership.
