How You Will Make an ImpactThe Director of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will plan, organize, and direct the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Continuous Improvement functions and provide engineering and program management direction for Reading Truck Body Operations. In addition to leading the implementation of facilities expansion and improvement, the Director will develop manufacturing systems and processes, manufacturing standards, and a standard tooling strategy. The incumbent will research and introduce new manufacturing technologies, leading a team of engineers in the implementation of continuous improvement activities. The Director will adhere and train to a Lean Six Sigma culture to attain maximum production efficiency and quality standards in the most cost-effective manner.
The Nuts and Bolts• Provide day-to-day and strategic direction to Advanced Manufacturing Engineering project managers and continuous improvement teams• Direct the development, specification, procurement, testing, introduction, and maintenance of fabrication, and production equipment, tooling, fixtures, welding processes, coating processes, and automation• Advance the fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, and coating processes through the implementation of robotics and automation• Oversee and develop capital equipment requests (CAPEX’s) for fabrication, assembly, manufacturing, coating, automation, facility, and safety projects• Direct the execution of facilities, fabrication, assembly, manufacturing, coating, automation, and safety projects• Collaborate with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to develop workflows in alignment with product and process specifications• Drive the improvement of operations efficiency by improving workflows, space utilization, and facility layout• Promote company safety policies and develop technical solutions to improve operational safety• Plan and support lean initiatives• Provide leadership with regular updates of key metrics and progress of each project along with performance against short term and long-term goals• Participate in the VSM and Kaizen activities including creation of visual indicators of operating conditions
Required CredentialsEducation: • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics• Advanced Degree in Business or Engineering is preferred
Experience:• Ten plus (10+) years of manufacturing engineering experience with program management• Leadership in the design and implementation of +10m manufacturing equipment installation and building expansion• Experience in leading a team of multiple engineering disciplines and technical support engineers• Experience in launching production lines and specifying automated processes• Experience with sheet metal manufacturing technologies, including forming, fabrication, finishing, welding (both steel and aluminum), and material handling is preferred• Experience with DFM, DFMEA, APQP, and PFMEA and their applications is preferred
Certification /License:• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
