Family Service Society, Inc. is interviewing for hourly, full-time Parent Educator for the Family Focus Program. The Family Focus program offers hope to families facing the challenges of child abuse and/or child neglect by providing parenting education, using family strengths and community resources to help parents learn to provide a safe, nurturing home environment where children can grow and thrive. The program provides family support, parenting education, in-home visits, enhanced/coached visitation to children in foster care, and information and referrals to additional community services. The Parent Educator is responsible for in- home therapeutic intervention with families at risk of having children placed in foster care due to child abuse and/or neglect. The Parent Educator will provide individual and family parent education and supportive counseling as appropriate, as well as crisis intervention, linkage to necessary services, and enhanced visitations. Experience working with children and parents is required. Good written and verbal communication skills, positive solution-focused attitude, excellent teamwork, ability to communicate and coordinate services with other providers, excellent time management skills, and timely and thorough documentation of services are required. Criminal background check conducted. Master's degree in related field required. Valid NY State Driver's License and auto insurance which meet agency standards are mandatory. Reliable transportation is required. Ability to meet with school age youth and their families after school, with an average of two early evenings per week. We support families in connecting with one another and nurturing healthy attachments through the use of play, and modeling healthy nurturing routines, age appropriate expectations, and setting boundaries during coached visitations for families who are working toward reunification as well. Education and Experience Requirements: Candidates must possess a master’s degree and related preferably at least two years of experience in the human service field. The Parent Educator must be able to establish rapport with clients who are diverse in their race, culture, religion, economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, and abilities.
