UGA’s Facilities Management Division (FMD) is the largest division within Finance & Administration. More than 800 employees manage, operate, and maintain campus buildings, landscapes, and infrastructure that support the university’s long-term sustainability.
Position Overview
The Professional Development & Organizational Communications Coordinator plays a key role in designing, delivering, and evaluating training and professional development programs across FMD. This role also supports division-wide internal communications to ensure employees stay informed, engaged, and connected.
This position serves as FMD’s Professional Education Portal (PEP) Project Manager and Learning Administrator and works closely with leadership, HR, Safety, and Communications teams to support workforce development and internal messaging.
Key Responsibilities
• Training & Professional Development (40%): Conduct training needs assessments and recommend appropriate learning solutions; Design, develop, and coordinate division-wide training programs and refreshers; Partner with the Safety team to develop and maintain safety training and onboarding for skilled trades; Evaluate training effectiveness and maintain training records; Facilitate new hire orientation programs
• Professional Education Portal (PEP) Administration (30%): Serve as PEP Coordinator and Learning Administrator; Manage onboarding and implementation of PEP across the division; Collaborate with departments to upload and maintain training content; Maintain and enhance processes supporting the PEP system
• Internal Communications (20%): Partner with the FMD Public Relations Manager to support internal communications; Manage content for employee information kiosks; Engage leaders and staff to gather content and improve communication strategies; Assess effectiveness of internal communications and recommend improvements
• Special Projects (10%): Support strategic initiatives and special projects as assigned by FMD leadership
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• 2+ years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Communications, Instructional Design, or related field
• 5+ years of instructional design or professional teaching experience
Skills & Experience
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Experience coordinating training programs and events
• Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning principles
• Experience with learning management systems and web-based training tools
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and multimedia training platforms
Additional Details
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm (occasional evening/weekend work may be required)
• Work location: Athens, GA
