The Pet Care Specialist is responsible for stewarding best practices in Adoption Services that align with strategic goals and AAHS’ mission by assuring that all animals are afforded a humane and compassionate environment while maintaining a high level of customer service both internally and externally. Job Summary: Under the direction of the Shelter Manager, the Pet Care Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day duties involved in the care and maintenance of animals, facilities, and to facilitate adoption and educational interactions with the public. Roles & Responsibilities: ● Performing and maintaining daily cleaning and care of animals and facilities in accordance with established department standard operating procedures and protocols. ● Perform intake procedures and process animals and records upon arrival to the shelter while also continuously ensuring accurate daily animal record upkeep. ● Performing daily behavioral enrichment, medical, and other treatment procedures for pets housed in the adoption center as needed or prescribed by AAHS veterinarian. ● Assist the public in the adoption process by showing adoptable animals, explaining procedures, discussing concerns and providing information to the public about AAHS services and programs in an accurate manner. ● Assist in the monitoring and continuous training of volunteers (including Community Service) as it pertains to the department. ● Keeping the surgery log updated, bringing pets over to the clinic for spay/neuter or wellness appointments. ● Administer necessary medications, vaccines, and preventatives according to animal records and the daily Medical Care Express Log ● Monitor and record any behavioral and medical abnormalities noticed in the Vet Daily Sheet ● Restraining and restricting animals for medications and vaccinations ● Performing adoptions, answering the phone and emails if needed in a timely manner. ● Provide daily enrichment for dogs and cats, as prescribed by the Behavior & Enrichment Coordinator ● Continuously keeping medical and behavioral records up to date and accurate ● Performing daily tasks such as doing laundry, taking out the trash, restocking items, doing dishes, etc. ● Deep clean and sanitize runs, condos, quads, and iso rooms according to standard operating procedures and protocols ● Document and store donations ● Other duties as assigned by Shelter Manager Pay: $14.25 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Employee discount Health insurance On-the-job training Opportunities for advancement Paid time off Paid training Vision insurance Work Location: In person
