Position Overview
MJHS is seeking a dynamic, student-centered 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher to join our team for the remainder of the 20252026 school year. The ideal candidate will foster critical thinking, civic engagement, and a deep understanding of historical and contemporary issues while building positive relationships with junior high school students.
Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned social studies instruction for 8th grade students
• Develop lessons that incorporate primary/secondary sources, writing, discussion, and project-based learning
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
• Assess and monitor student progress; provide timely feedback
• Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment
• Collaborate with grade-level and content-area teams
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
• Participate in required school meetings, professional development, and school events
Qualifications
• Valid state teaching certification in Social Studies (or ability to obtain certification)
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
• Knowledge of middle school instructional best practices
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
• Effective communication and collaboration skills
• Experience teaching middle school social studies preferred
