Job Description
The Machine Operator ensures the proper operation and functioning of all machines in the production area. He/she will start the machine and observe its operation to detect malfunctions; stop the machine and report any malfunction to the Supervisor or Team Leader; and make routine machine adjustments or repairs such as clearing jams, setting guides, etc. The Machine Operator performs manual packing operations such as wrapping, boxing, labeling, etc.; handles raw materials, finished product, and associated documentation using production and warehouse management systems; maintains packaging supplies such as wrapping paper, boxes, cartons, glue, ink, labels, etc.; feeds product to conveyors, hoppers, or other devices and unloads packaged product; performs quality inspections to ensure that products meet quality specifications; and maintains records such as production volume, product type, quality check sheets, machine check sheets, etc. He/she effectively works with others within the team to achieve team goals and follows all company policies and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience. Candidates must have good communication skills (both written and verbal), good time management skills, and a professional appearance and demeanor.
Responsibilities
• Sets up and operates machine following established procedures and policies
• Ensures machinery operates efficiently and effectively to meet productivity requirements
• Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies as needed
• Inspects material and finished goods for defects
• Utilizes hand trucks, forklifts, pallet jack, hoists, conveyors, or handling equipment to move material to and from delivery transportation vehicles and within warehouse or storage facility
• Maintains a clean and orderly work environment while ensuring housekeeping duties are completed as required
• Follows all safety policies and procedures
• Performs daily inspections prior to beginning operations
• Manages all required paperwork and records and prepares documentation (forms, reports, etc.) when needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required with a minimum of 6 months of manufacturing / industrial experience
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required; extensive knowledge/experience preferred
• Strong work ethic with a proven ability to support a positive team environment
• Excellent attention to detail, a focus on accuracy, and a sense of urgency
• Ablility to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• Capable of standing/sitting/walking 8 to 10 hrs per day in a manufacturing environment and comfortably lifting up to 20 pounds frequently
• Ability to rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
