About The College/Unit/Department
Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant provides integrated research, education and extension programs that foster the responsible use of Georgia’s coastal resources by individuals, decision-makers and management agencies.
Our program is managed through a federal-state partnership between the University of Georgia (UGA) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Sea Grant College Program, a national network of 34 Sea Grant programs located in coastal and Great Lakes states and territories.

Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s mission is to improve the environmental, social and economic health of the Georgia coast through research, education and extension.
Every four years, our program develops a long-range strategic plan that describes our goals and priorities for the coming years. To create this plan, we utilize an inclusive, multi-step process that incorporates fresh input from a diverse constituency.

Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant is looking for a motivated and energetic individual who enjoys working with students ages 6-13 and has some background in working with youth camp programs. The internship work dates are May 21 – August 4, 2026. The intern will work with marine education faculty to supervise and lead summer camp activities for small teams of participants at the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium near Savannah, Georgia. Onsite housing and daily lunch provided. The intern will assist in daily preparations, instruction, and camper supervision.
This internship will provide experiential learning opportunities and practical work experience in the field of environmental / marine education. This position is intended for an undergraduate student to explore career interest, develop teaching skills and expand professional networks in environmental education, with emphasis on summer marine science camp programming.
Objectives
• Assist in instruction and implementation of Summer Marine Science Camp
• Utilize skills and knowledge gathered during undergraduate studies
• Work in an environment conducive to learning and professional growth
Location and Hours
• Position based at UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium on UGA’s Skidaway Marine Science Campus, Skidaway Island (30 Ocean Science Circle, Savannah, GA)
• 9 weeks, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m to coincide with camp session dates. No work June 29 – July 3 (camp break).
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification In Position
• Previous experience working with children ages 6-14, preferably in a camp situation
• Excellent team working, communication, and leadership skills
• First Aid and CPR certification
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
• At least 18 years of age
• Currently enrolled in accredited college/university
• Completion of internship application and standard background check
• United States citizen or possess a valid U.S. work visa
• Pre and post internship assessments, progress and summary reports, and exit interview
Physical Demands
• Physical ability to work outdoors in ambient conditions and lift objects up to 50 lbs
• Driving as needed for job duties.l
