PMRC Field Crew Member Staff Position
We are hiring two PMRC Field Crew Members! These are full-time, 12-month, benefits and retirement eligible staff positions. Come join our team at UGA!
Minimum Qualifications: Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Position Summary: This position implements the installation, maintenance, treatment, measurement, and documentation of research field plots of a large, regional, forestry field research program from Virginia to Florida to East Texas. The individual in this position follows study work plans and established protocols in executing tasks. The individual works as part of a crew and independently. Task completion often requires the individual to solve problems regarding scheduling, safety, quality, and methods. The individual contributes to improvement in work processes through critical observation and trial and error. The employee interprets results of efforts (e.g. tree measurements, plot layout, efficiency of effort) for reasonableness, accuracy, and process quality and makes modifications as warranted.

Physical Demands:
• Extensive work in many environmental conditions throughout the year (e.g. hot and cold weather, rain, noxious flora and fauna).
• Occasional handling of heavy materials and working in challenging surroundings (e.g. harvested sites or sites with dense forest growth).
• Handling of pesticides and fertilizers
• Extensive travel
Must have a valid driver's license.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Install, maintain, treat, measure, sample, and document PMRC research field trials, working independently or as part of a crew.
• Execute field program tasks as scheduled by PMRC Research Coordinator and Field Crew Leader and following study work plans and established protocols.
• Implement competition control, fertilization, thinning, and other treatments.
• Measure and sample planted pine and secondary vegetation.
• Ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all activities.
• Complete diverse field and laboratory tasks on grant-funded projects such as destructive biomass sampling of pine trees and secondary vegetation, tree mapping in plantations, and foliar sampling.
• Maintain PMRC fleet of vehicles including trucks, SUVs, and off-road vehicles.
