• An earned doctorate in Musicology or related field, or ABD status, with degree completed by August 1, 2026.
Position Summary
The Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Musicology, tenure-track. We are seeking a dynamic scholar and researcher with a diversity of teaching aptitudes, which should include but is not limited to music before 1830. Anticipated start date: August 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
• Instruction
○ Teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching load is normally four courses per year and includes supervision of graduate teaching assistants.
○ Teaching load will include at least one large-enrollment general education class per year, suitable for conversion into a summer on-line course.
○ Advise and mentor graduate students
• Research
○ Conduct research and/or creative activity in the field of Musicology.
• Service
○ Participate in activities related to the academic mission of the university.
○ Serve on committees.
○ Assist in student recruiting.
○ Contribute to Musicology/Ethnomusicology area duties
Additional Requirements
• At least one academic year of college-level teaching experience in Musicology (can be as a teaching assistant).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
• Teaching profile that broadens the course offerings of the Musicology/Ethnomusicology area.
• Ability to prepare students for careers both inside and outside academia.
• Evidence of working collaboratively and effectively with students and faculty across academic and performance areas.
• Demonstrated ability to forge artistic and educational connections between colleges/universities and surrounding communities.
