Sr Manager | Insurance Accounting & Financial Projects
This position is with a P&C Insurance carrier and is heavily focused on special projects, audit oversight, consolidations, and complex accounting initiatives, while also providing leadership and guidance to a developing accounting team. As the company continues to grow through acquisition and system modernization, this role will be central to ensuring accurate reporting, scalable processes, and strong internal controls.
Hybrid 2-3 days/week in Sarasota, FL
Key Responsibilities
• Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting
• Oversee and support U.S. GAAP and Statutory (STAT) reporting for P&C insurance entities.
• Lead consolidations across multiple insurance entities and support future acquisition activity.
• Perform and review complex accounting analyses and technical accounting memos.
• Own financial reporting and analysis for at least one insurance entity.
• Serve as a primary lead for external audits, including coordination with auditors and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure strong internal controls, documentation, and audit readiness.
• Support regulatory and statutory reporting requirements as needed.
• Lead and execute cross-functional accounting projects, including business combinations and process improvements.
• Play a key leadership role in the ERP migration from FIS AIS (SunGard) to NetSuite, planned for the fall.
• Partner with leadership on system implementation, GL setup, testing, and post-go-live stabilization.
• Provide day-to-day oversight, mentorship, and hands-on support to accountants, including both in-office and remote team members.
• Act as a resource for team members with limited insurance accounting experience, offering guidance and “hands-on” support as needed.
• Collaborate closely with the Assistant Controller to manage workloads, deadlines, and team development.
Ideal Background & Experience
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within P&C insurance.
• Open to candidates from industry or public accounting (insurance-focused practice preferred).
• Strong experience with:
• Consolidations
• Audit management
• Financial analysis
• GAAP and STAT reporting
• ERP experience required; NetSuite implementation experience is a strong plus, though other GL/ERP implementations are acceptable.
• Reinsurance exposure helpful but not required (limited treaties; teachable).
• Prior experience managing or mentoring accounting staff.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA strongly preferred.
Experience supporting acquisitions or multi-entity insurance structures.
