Job Summary
The Director of Institutional Research is responsible for advancing the educational mission and institutional effectiveness of the university by providing leadership for a comprehensive program of research and analysis that supports the strategic planning and direction of the university. The Director leads the Office of Institutional Research and works closely with a variety of campus leaders, thus a campus presence is required. A hybrid remote/in-office work schedule may be considered if appropriate following an initial fully on-campus period.
In collaboration with key campus constituents, the Director is responsible for development and implementation of university research projects and assessment initiatives, analysis and reporting of institutional data, generation of internal and external reports including readily available data dashboards, and monitoring campus accountability and assessment measures including state-determined performance metrics.
The Office of Institutional Research assists campus leadership in the identification of issues, analysis of trends, and the understanding of outcomes (i.e., turning data into information for the university community), as well as contributing to the planning, development, and evaluation of institutional policy and actions. Inherent in these responsibilities is the expectation of working collaboratively with key campus administrators to ensure access to accurate data for the timely submission of all required federal and state reports.
Minimum Qualifications • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
• Five years' experience in higher education institutional research and assessment, preferably with 4-year university
• Evidence of strong communication skills in interpreting and presenting data to internal and external audience
• Record of exhibiting collaborative engagement and sound leadership
• Advanced statistical analysis abilities
• Experience with statistical analytical tools (SPSS, SAS, EXCEL, etc.) and data visualization / dashboarding tools (TABLEAU, POWER BI, etc.)
• Advanced proficiency with a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, SQL, and presentation technology
• Familiarity with educational technology and information systems
• Understanding of trends in higher education and society
• Evidence of working effectively with a diverse and multicultural student body, faculty/staff, and community
Preferred Qualifications • Experience in working within a state government system
• Experience in working with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE)
• Experience Middle States Commission on Higher Education re-accreditation process
• Experience with Ellucian Banner or other similar Student Information Systems
• Knowledge of data warehouse technologies such as Ellucian Insights, etc.
