Job Overview
Sigma, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Animal Research Technician to support daily animal care operations in a regulated research environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring animal welfare compliance, research integrity, and facility operations while contributing to the discovery and development of innovative products.

Key Responsibilities

Perform animal husbandry and health care in compliance with:
•
Animal Welfare Act & Regulations
•
NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
•
AAALAC accreditation standards
•
Client Veterinary Sciences SOPs
•
Conduct daily animal health and welfare assessments
•
Recognize and report signs of illness, distress, or abnormal behavior
•
Assist with scientific procedures per approved study protocols
•
Administer treatments, experimental articles, sedation, or euthanasia under veterinary direction
•
Maintain accurate USDA-required records, preventive medicine logs, and study documentation
•
Perform cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of animal rooms, equipment, pens, feeders, and water systems
•
Assist with sample collection (blood, tissues, swabs, feces, oral fluids, etc.)
•
Support necropsies and post-mortem procedures
•
Work in BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratory environments
•
Support biosecurity activities , including environmental sampling and decontamination
•
Provide guidance to junior staff as delegated
•
Participate in site committees and collaborative workgroups
Required Qualifications
•
High School Diploma or GED (required)
•
Willingness to work directly with animals during ante-mortem and post-mortem procedures
•
Ability to lift:
•
Up to 70 lbs occasionally
•
Up to 50 lbs frequently
•
Comfortable working in extreme environments (hot, cold, humid, noisy)
•
No allergies to animals, livestock, or feed dust
•
Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation
•
Ability to maintain a calm temperament when working with animals
•
Willingness to learn quickly in a demanding research environment
•
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
